Coach Alex VanHouten’s life changed when he decided not to let Ehlers Danlos—a painful genetic disorder—dictate his future. This journey, marked by determination and discipline, birthed his 1% BETTER Daily philosophy: the idea that small, consistent improvements can conquer even the toughest challenges. From his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt in chemistry and psychology, to earning personal training, corrective exercise, and performance enhancement credentials, Coach Alex has dedicated himself to uncovering the keys to lasting health. He’s written peer-reviewed articles, published over 500 podcast episodes, and has been a coach and personal trainer since 2005—all while living out his own transformation every day.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Central Arkansas, Coach Alex also operates The Betterment Co., where he fuses scientific insight with heartfelt coaching to help clients achieve real, sustainable change.
